The Phoenix Crown Green Bowling Club was established over 35 years ago when members of the then Phoenix Sports and Social Club decided that they would like to form a bowling club.

As a result a green was established alongside the Sports Hall

Today membership is open to all and new players are always welcome to join. Details of subscriptions, which include £6.50 House Membership for use of the Clubhouse, are due in October, and are available from the Office.

The club holds its A.G.M. in March and is affiliated to the South Yorkshire C.G.B.A., and also the Rotherham C.G.B.A.  which enables open competitions for the whole of South Yorkshire to be held, plus playing in the Rotherham Leagues.


The Indoor Bowling club holds short mat bowling sessions on Monday evenings in the main room of the Phoenix. Play starts in the first week of October and lasts until the end of March.

There are three mats are laid down and ten teams play in the Club’s leagues. Woods are provided, but flat shoes must be worn.

Games start at 6pm, with a team of four playing two sessions of 55 minutes each, with the other teams play from 8pm to 10pm.

An ideal number of teams is twelve, so anyone wishing to play should contact Brenda Eccles on 01709 820934 either to join an existing team or to enter another team.


The Club also has two teams, playing twice a week, in the first division of the Vets indoor bowling at Hexthorpe, Doncaster, The schedule starts in the first week of October, with the season going through until the end of March. Parkinsons Funeral Directors have sponsored our Crown Green Bowling Section. The cheque was presented to Roger Scorthorne by Warran Tyler and Jonathan Watson.

This money will help to improve our facilities and we thank them for their support
